Equal time

The Lord is challenging me to spend as much time with Him – in worship, prayer, and His Word as I do running. If I am going to discipline my body to be strong it is right for me to discipline my spirit.

Resting, healing, running

It used to be that I ran to or three days in a row. Now I run – the next day I must rest. It’s part of the healing process after an injury. It turns out that even in normal usage when you use a muscle it damages it. Tiny tears are caused. A time of [...]

Rising from a fall

I fell hard on the concrete. The pain in my left hip was excruciating – almost causing me to pass out. The crowd gathered around offering a hand up and a glass of water. I couldn’t move for a while. When I could, all I could manage was a hobble. My desire, the cup of [...]

I’ve been able to resume running in the last four weeks. This was after a forced layoff for nine weeks due to a hip pointer. I’m not quite back to the form I was in when I fell but it’s coming. I am grateful to the Lord to be able to run again.

Up and Runnin’ again

Took a little break from the blog, sorry. I had a lot of irons in the fire – Trip to Haiti, Mayfest (large street fair in Bennington – we set up our tent and minister all day), running the Friday night youth program which included taking 25 teenagers to New York City last Saturday… [...]

We made the decision to postpone the trip to California. This means I won’t be running the La Jolla half marathon this year which is a bummer since I was really looking forward to it. The problem is that my hip is taking a long time to heal. It has been 4 1/2 weeks and [...]

Enjoyed Saturday at Iron Sharpens Iron (Men’s Conference) in Albany, NY. David Hickey, our Assistant Pastor and I manned a table in the exhibitors hall. Had the opportunity to sell a number of books and connect with a lot of excellent brothers.

It has been a slow process! Over 3 weeks have passed since I fell, badly bruising my hip. The good news is that it is improving. The first week was basically excruciating. The second week I looked a lot like Grandpa on the Real McCoys (TV show from the 60’s for you young readers). Last [...]

Walking a mile in my shoes

My Shoes

Yesterday the hip finally felt good enough (read, “not as painful”) to go out for a walk. I slipped my feet into my running shoes and I stroll-limped down to Jensen’s Restaurant to get coffee and a muffin – no running yet. I sat near the woodstove which radiated a penetrating heat and [...]
