A Goal

This one is out there a ways… When I run the East Hampton Half Marathon on October 2 I would like to qualify for the New York Half Marathon (the Long Island event is a sanctioned qualifier). For my age group the time is 1 hour 48 minutes!

Race Day

So today I run my first race – the Battle Day 5K. Should be fun and give me a read on where I really am with getting fitter and faster!

Walking a mile in my shoes

My Shoes

Yesterday the hip finally felt good enough (read, “not as painful”) to go out for a walk. I slipped my feet into my running shoes and I stroll-limped down to Jensen’s Restaurant to get coffee and a muffin – no running yet. I sat near the woodstove which radiated a penetrating heat and [...]

Owww! That hurt!

Youth Rally last night, big crowd, went great but toward the end I tripped over my own feet in front of everyone and fell on my left hip. The floor in our fellowship hall is very hard - vinyl tile on concrete. The impact took my breath away. For a minute I thought I was [...]

Silk Road

Still running on [...]

Daily Diligence

It is now about 11 weeks from the La Jolla half marathon. I am amping up my training – after perusing a number of training schedules I have selected one that will gradually take me from where I am to a higher level of speed and proficiency. It will do this by increasing the [...]

Discipline yourself!

So here I am, 60 years old, doing something I never thought I would – running! Running a lot – about 5 days a week totaling about 20 miles a week now and looking to increase it (I know some people run much farther every week). “What am I thinking?” I say to [...]
