Rising from a fall

I fell hard on the concrete. The pain in my left hip was excruciating – almost causing me to pass out. The crowd gathered around offering a hand up and a glass of water. I couldn’t move for a while. When I could, all I could manage was a hobble. My desire, the cup of water, prayer, and the encouragements of friends notwithstanding restoration was not immediate. I thought I would be running again in a couple of days but it was nine weeks before I could walk normally let alone run.

I’ve thought about this in relationship to our walk with the Lord. When we fall hard spiritually the reviving process can be slow and painful. We would like to bounce back and take off but there is often need of healing. Our stumble can injure us. While the Lord forgives us instantly upon repentance He often allows a process of restoration that takes some time and dedication.
